Pligg is an open source CMS (PHP/MySQL script) that you install on your web site to run a Digg like social bookmarking/voting system. There are 100s of sites that use Pligg as their site engine. However, we do not agree with Pligg marketing people regarding the usage of word ‘CMS’. Drupal is a CMS, Joomla is a CMS. Pligg? Hardly.

Pligg

The latest version of Pligg is Beta 9.9. The official demo has been taken down. So here is our demo installation (front-end) for you.

Scriptful has illustrated installation instructions for version beta 9.6. They still hold good. Just ensure that you make these changes:

  • In 6th step, you have to also CHMOD languages directory to 777.
  • In 7th step, don’t CHMOD /libs/lang.conf to 666.
We hope you found this how-to helpful. Please social bookmark this tutorial and help us and others. Thanks in advance.

Ben: it is the languages directory which is at the top level (the same location as where the config.php resides).

    STUMBLED!

Good post, it’s pretty simple to install.

Pligg=CMS? I’m not sure where I stand with regards to that, it kind of is a CMS, but there are definite differences between it and WP/Joomla etc…

  4. Anybody installing a Pligg site should also check the Pligg forums for the SEO tutorials. Pligg doesn’t come very well SEO optimized, but a few hours of work can change that. I’ve implemented a lot of custom work on my Pligg site dedicated to open source software, which actually integrates Pligg, Joomla and DokuWiki:
