A series of screencasts (videos) on creating a web site using Drupal CMS right from installation to configuration to administration including notes jotted down during the process.

At the end of this tutorial series, you will be able to create and run a site like this (site look might be changing as I add features and extend this series).

Background

I’ve a simple web site over at scriptinstall4free. It runs on a lightweight CMS called sNews. While sNews is okay, there were few times when I write an entry and it would just disappear. Also it was very limited in what it can do. So I started looking for a CMS and Joomla was what first came to my mind. I’ve used it in the past and it’s a decent system - not too basic like sNews, not too complex like Typo3. I also checked out Drupal and saw some of the sites that were built using it. Drupal appears to be a top class CMS: code-wise, documentation-wise, community-wise. Drupal’s power comes at a cost though: It isn’t as easy as Joomla to figure out initially. But once you do, the possibilities are endless.

So, join me as I install Drupal, learn how to use it and collect useful Drupal resources on my way to create a simple new site at
http://www.scriptinstall4free.com/drupal. Once the site is reasonably okay, I shall replace the current one at

What is below is a detailed tutorial (incl. screencasts) on how to install Dolphin community builder, a PHP/MySQL script on your shared hosting account. I installed it at http://telug.us (hosted at DreamHost) as part of this tutorial. This is the kind of material I wished were present when I wanted to install it for the first time myself.

1. Download.

Dolphin comes in two versions:

a) Free version w/ ads
b) Ad-Free version that costs $39/year or a one-time $99 for unlimited ad-free usage

There’s no difference in the way both are installed. In this tutorial, I am going to guide you through the installation of free version w/ ads.

jobberBase is a new open source PHP/MySQL script using which you can set up a job site (thereby acting as a bridge between the job givers and job seekers).

The way the site works (once you install it on your hosting space):

1. Any user (even non-registered) can fill the form for posting a new job. The form will contain the category to which the job belongs to (Default categories are: Programmers, Designers, Administrators, Testers, Editors, Marketers, Managers and Consultants).
2. An e-mail notification is sent to the approver [whose mail address is specified in config file (NOTIFY_EMAIL) during the script installation].
3. Once the approver activates the ad, it gets posted in the site. Any further job postings from this e-mail address (i.e., the hiring person) will be auto activated.

4. Interested applicants can apply for the job by filling in their details like a covering letter and upload their resume/CV. This application will instantly be delivered to the hiring person.
